China: Major Tobacco-Growing Region Exports More Leaf Tobacco Source from: Guizhou Capital newspaper 07/29/2004 Southwest China's Guizhou Province – a major tobacco-growing region in China – exported 12,000 tons of leaf tobacco in the first half of 2004, earning 16.57 million U.S. dollars, respectively up 25 percent and 24 percent over the previous record highs registered in 2002.
Over recent years, the leaf tobacco exporting enterprises in Guizhou have kept improving the quality of export-oriented leaf tobacco, winning trust from foreign buyers.
In a first deal with Guizhou, a South Korean tobacco manufacturer bought 4,000 tons of leaf tobacco produced in the Chinese province, saying it is highly satisfied with its quality.
Guizhou Provincial Inspection and Quarantine Administration is the local government agency responsible for the inspection and quarantine of leaf tobacco for export. To facilitate leaf tobacco export of the province, the administration has put to use an e-commerce system and has established a “green passage” for export.
While exercising strict quality control in inspecting export-oriented leaf tobacco, the administration has managed to accelerate the process of declaration and passage, extend work hours and take other steps to ensure the dispatch of shipments of export-oriented leaf tobacco in a timely manner.
