HUNGARY: Philip Morris Shuts Down Plant

Philip Morris International said on 18 June 2994 it will close its Hungarian cigarette factory in Eger, some 100 kilometres northeast of Budapest, which currently employs 348 people. The company decided to close the plant because it was too small to be economically viable and its location in downtown Eger did not permit expansion, Zsolt Jamniczky, Philip Morris Hungary's corporate communication director, stated. He added that production – including that of domestic cigarette brand Helikon – will be redistributed among the company's other 10 factories within the European Union. Enditem
