Tobacco Board proposes market intervention

GUNTUR, The Tobacco Board meeting convened on Thursday for fixing the crop size in Karnataka turned out to be an uproarious one with the Andhra Pradesh farmers' representatives walking out of the board meeting opposing the proposal to allow growing of 74 million kg in the neighbouring State. The Tobacco Board also proposed to purchase tobacco from the auction floors with its own funds for stabilising the prices. While the Karnataka farmers wanted the 31,500 unauthorised barns regularised, the A.P. farmers opposed it vehemently. The Tobacco Board Chairman, P. Dayachari, the Executive Director, KJBV Subrahmanyam, the State Agriculture secretary, S.P. Singh and the Central Commerce Ministry representative, Sailendra Singh attended the meeting. Enditem
