India: Tobacco Growers Seek MGP Source from: The Hindu 08/04/2016 ![]() Tobacco growers in Prakasam district have urged the Tobacco Board to prevail upon the traders to agree to Minimum Guaranteed Price (MGP) for each grade of tobacco while submitting indents for the next cropping season. The farmers in the traditional tobacco growing area are upset with the manufacturers bringing down the prices of various grades midway through the marketing season after the Union Health Ministry issued notification for larger pictorial health warning on cigarette packs from April 1. Ahead of the board officials' meeting with the traders on Thursday, Virginia Tobacco Growers Welfare Association president Ch. Seshaiah wanted the Tobacco Board to calculate fair prices for various grades and get the acceptance of the traders. Enditem |
