Malawi tobacco sales to close on September 25

Malawi's Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) on Tuesday announced that this year's tobacco selling season will officially come to an end by September 25.TCC Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Munthali said in the capital Lilongwe that other Auction floors like Limbe in the commercial city of Blantyre and Chinkhoma in Kasungu district have already concluded their sales.

"The remaining markets of Lilongwe and Mzuzu will finish their sales by next week which will be followed by an official closure of this year's sales," he said.

He admitted that this year's market has been characterized by various challenges that have resulted into a drop in total earnings.

A week before the closure, he said, the country has recorded $326million with a total of I84 million kilograms sold.

Last year the country earned $361million with a total of 191million kilograms sold. Enditem
