Malawi Govt Licences Three Tobacco Buyers Source from: Malawi24 03/10/2015 ![]() As one way of boiling competition and improving tobacco prices in the country, Government has licensed three foreign prospective buyers for the crop, Malawi24 can reveal. Close sources told this publication that though government has reserved names of these buyers but in the forth coming market season they are going to start buying Malawian tobacco. The source said information indicates that one of the buyers is from China, one from Egypt while the other one is of South Africa. Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) boss Bruce Munthali hailed government on the development saying it will mount competition on the market thus eating complaints from farmers. "Good development as it will create stiff competition on the market while fairing prices for our farmers," Said Mnthali. Tobacco remains Malawi's kingpin cash crop and a hub to the country's economy. Meanwhile farmers have expressed their relief with the development saying this will help to comfort them. They told Malawi24 that they expect government to run the programme very well as they do a lot of work in the farms. Enditem |
