China: Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences Project Wins Funding Source from: TobaccoChina Online 09/10/2014 ![]() A scientific and technological research project of Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences – cloning and authentication of the gene resistant to tomato spotted wilt virus in wild tobacco – has recently won funding support from the National Natural Sciences Foundation. The project, submitted by Dr. Huang Changjun of Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences, was on the 2014 list of projects winning funding support from the National Natural Sciences Foundation released recently. After winning the funding support from the National Natural Sciences Foundation, Yunnan Academy of Tobacco Agricultural Sciences is planning to focus efforts to find out crucial alternate genes from wild tobacco that are resistant to tomato spotted wilt virus in wild tobacco, and authenticate and determine the functions of the alternative genes by applying such methods and means as molecular genetics, genomics and molecular biology, to provide genetic resources for developing new tobacco varieties resistant to tomato spotted wilt virus, and to take a solid step in making a use of the gene to develop tobacco varieties resistant to the virus.
