Bulgaria''s Plovdiv Hosted III International Forum of Oriental Tobacco Producers

Bulgaria's second biggest city of Plovdiv hosted the III International Forum of Oriental Tobacco Producers. The forum was opened by Bulgarian interim Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasil Grudev.

The event was organised by the International Tobacco Growers' Association .

The major news that broke at the III International Forum was that Oriental tobacco producers from all over the world, including Bulgarian, will go out on a peaceful protest on October 16. Their demand is to preserve its production.

Deputy Chairperson of the Tobacco Growers Association, Asen Kichukov, announced the news at the III International Forum of Oriental Tobacco Producers held in Bulgaria's second biggest city of Plovdiv.

The date of the protest coincides with the conference of the World Health Organisation in Moscow.

"The WHO bans the Oriental and Burley tobacco growing and these sorts should be replaced with alternative ecological ones," Kichukov remarked.

The III International Forum of Oriental Tobacco Producers is focused on the problems in the sector.

The Bulgarian National Association of Tobacco Growers will look for an opportunity to hold meetings with MEPs and seek support from all countries to preserve the production on world scale.

"The final decision will be made on October 16 after the meeting in Moscow," Kichukov said further.

There are more than 200,000 people growing Oriental tobacco in Bulgaria. In Europe, the number of producers tops 400,000, while speaking on world scale – around 30 million. Enditem
