Malawi Earns over US$200m in Tobacco Sales Source from: StarAfrica 07/15/2014 ![]() Malawi has earned over US$200million in tobacco sales with 127million kilograms sold since the opening of the country's marketing season in March, sources said here. The figure represents a 3 per cent below what the country earned in 2013, the country's Tobacco Control Commission (TCC) Chief Executive Officer Bruce Munthali said Monday. He explained that tobacco marketing is stable in all the country's main auction floors despite registering a reduction in sales compared to last year. "As we are going towards the end of tobacco marketing season, prices have picked up giving hope to farmers compared to what the buyers were offering during start of the selling season," he said. Munthali however blamed the softening of tobacco prices globally saying it has affected the prices on the national market. Malawi is one of the highest producers of tobacco in the world. Enditem |
