Cuba: Tobacco Traditions Among Tourism Attractions Source from: Prensa Latina 07/03/2014 ![]() Attracted by the fame of Cuban tobacco, dozens of foreign visitors are touring Casa del Veguero in the municiplaity of ViƱales, PInar del Rio, west of Cuba, where secrets of the tobacco cultivation are seen, from the best fields of the island. The place proposes a trip on each stage of the tobacco cultivation process, starting from the planting of the first seeds until it reaches the twisting stage. Casa del Veguero supplies an approach to the attractiveness of Cuban tobacco and the musical traditions of the zone, which landscapes, tobacco houses and other elements. The tobacco leaf is submitted to a natural drying process to be used in the elaboration of the Habano cigars at the end of the process. Once the crop is over, cultivations of corn start covering the whole space of the original soil where tobacco was once planted. Casa del Veguero gives homage to the tobacco cultivations, the rhythms and dances of the Cuban farmers. Several guidelines lead visitors on tobacco fields, the scenery showed by Cuban tobacco growers like Alejandro Robaina, dead in 2010. PInar del Rio supplies 70 percent of the national tobacco production. Enditem |
