ZIMBABWE: Volume Ahead of Last Year But Prices Depressed

Leaf volume sold since the marketing season began in February is almost 24 per cent more than recorded last year, but the average price per kg is down 13.4 per cent, New Zimbabwe reported.

Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) data show 111.6 kilogrammes have been sold compared with 90.3 million kgs for an average price of USD 3.21 (EUR 2.31) per kg, the news website said in a story posted 5 May. More growers registered this year than in the previous year. Last year at least 166.5 million kgs were sold, an output level the government projects will rise to 170 million kgs this marketing season. Enditem
