<strong>China: Fujian 200 Hectares of Tobacco Hit by Hail and Strom</strong>

On 28 March 5 PM to 7 PM, Lufeng, Niantian, Chadi, Xiadu and other towns of Shanghang county, Fujian, attacked by storm and hail, and tobacco farming attacked in different degree. Total nearly 200 hectares tobacco fields affected, including 28.5 hectares tobacco fields were destroyed completely, 40.5 hectares tobacco crop were destroyed heavily, and 80.8 hectares tobacco crop were destroyed in some degree.

After the occurrence of the disaster, the government departments at all levels attached great importance to it. And on August 29, Shanghang county government held emergency meeting in county tobacco monopoly administration, to arrange the work of saving tobacco crop in fields. Officials of tobacco industry, weather bureau and insurance department participated the meeting.  

After the meeting, deputy county governor Zhang Yuzhang immediately led the leadership of relevant departments to check tobacco fields in all the affected villages and towns, and encouraged and guided tobacco farmers to save tobacco crops in fields. Enditem
