Tanzania Leaf Tobacco Company Joins Fire Safety Drive

THE Tanzania Leaf Tobacco Company (TLTC) has reconditioned one of four fire tending facilities in Morogoro at the cost of 7.8m/-, the company announced in a statement.

Handing over the reconditioned fire tender, TLTC Group Corporate Affairs Director, Mr Richard Andrew Sinamtwa, said the company had government's efforts in addressing fire hazards in the region."

As part of corporate citizens, we realized that by renovating this fire tender, we join hands with the government through public-private partnership in enhancing fire safety measures," he said.

Mr Sinamtwa told the Morogoro Acting Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr Lameck Noah, who officiated the handing over ceremony on behalf of the Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Dr Joel Bendera, that TLTC did so in response to a request by the Morogoro Regional Fire Department and Rescue unit.

"A sound firefighting unit within a given municipality like Morogoro greatly contributes to the security of the people and their property," he said.

The Acting Morogoro Region Fire Officer, Edwin Ngassiwa, said Morogoro had four fire tenders but only two were in order.

He said most fire tenders came through aid and therefore ordinarily do not have provisions for spare parts, which now turns out to be a major challenge to the region. Enditem
