Visits to Cuban Tobacco Plantations in 2014 Habanos Festival

Attracted by the fame of Cuban Cigars, thousands of foreign travelers annually visit tobacco plantations in Vueltabajo, the largest producer of tobacco leaf and favorite route for those attending the traditional Habano Festival.

The 16th Habano Festival, which will be held from Feb. 24 to 28, includes among its offers tours of the municipalities of San Juan y Martinez and San Luis, known for the abundance and excellence of their crops.

The Hoyo de Monterrey region, where tobacco leaves are planted from early nineteenth century, is attractive to many participants in the meeting, whether farmers, merchants, advertisers or just lovers of handmade cigars in Cuba, organizers say.

Reaching Pinar del Rioâ´s tobacco plantations, formerly named Vueltabajo, is an opportunity to meet experienced laborers and discuss secrets of tobacco culture, which dates back to pre-Columbian times.

The itinerary involves visits to farms of several farmers awarded with the Hombre Habano Prize, including Hector Luis Prieto, who sows tobacco in Quemado de Ruby.

According to the organizing committee, over a thousand people from 80 countries will attend the festival this year, dedicated to the Hoyos de Monterrey, Partagas, Trinidad and H.Upmann brands. Enditem
