<strong>China: Hubei Province LaiFeng County Cultivates Special Brand Cigar Tobacco</strong>

On December 19, entrusted by Technology Department of Hubei Enshi Tobacco Company, Enshi Tobacco Monopoly Administration organized related experts, and held a symposia on cigar tobacco tasting and technology in Laifeng county. Experts tasted H382 cigar tobacco sampling, which variety introduced from Indonesia, and discussed cigar tobacco planting technology. The symposia aimed to review the situation of cigar tobacco production in Laifeng, and improved the level of cigar tobacco planting in Laifeng county.

The panel entered into cigar planting base in Baifusi town in Laifang county, and checked processes of storing, drying and fermentating of cigar tobacco etc, and tasted cigar tobacco, and formed the comprehensive evaluation opinions on cigar tobacco. Experts believed that cigar tobacco has rich aroma of cigar, and the aroma quality is above average, combustibility is good, and usability better in industry, it can be used as cigar filler.

According to advices from the experts, LaiFeng county will hire a batch of domestic cigar experts of production and fermentation technology, and experts will carry out the related key technology research jointly. The research will be focused on drying and fermentating technolog, and further improve the quality of tobacco leaves, and build LaiFeng cigar tobacco brand, and finally built the national first-class cigar tobacco planting base.

As early as in 2011, Hubei Tobacco Monopoly Administration imported Indonesia H382 cigar tobacco variety, and planted successful in LaiFeng. In recent 3 years, under the strong support of the department of tobacco in Hebei province, LaiFeng county carried out researches on seeding time, transplanting period, fertilizing, density, air-drying, fermentating, and has achieved some initial results, such as exploration of field planting succeeded, and the cigar tobacco quality achieved the tobacco leaf quality of that of Indonesia. In 2013, Laifeng county cigar tobacco planting area expanded to 900 mu (148.3 acres), and purchased of 1200 dan (60000 kgs) . Enditem
