<strong>China: Yunnan Tobacco Varieties Approved by National Tobacco Breeding Committee</strong>

On December 3, 5 of tobacco varieties in Yunnan province, including Yunyan 110, PVH1452, Yunbai No.4, Yunxiang No. 2, Yunshai No.1，approved by National Tobacco Variety Committee.

The National Tobacco Variety Committee held national tobacco variety appraising meeting on December 3, 2013 in Xishuangbanna, the six new flue-cured tobacco varieties and 1 burley tobacco variety, 1 Maryland tobacco variety, 1 oriental tobacco variety and 1 light sun-cured tobacco variety was approved in the meeting.

Among the five new varieties in Yunnan, Yunyan 110 and PVH1452 are new flue-cured tobacco varieties and Yunyan 110 was cultivated by Yunnan province Tobacco Academy of Agricultural Sciences Institute, PVH1452 introduced from Brazil; Yunbai No.4 is burley tobacco variety, Yunxiang No.2 is oriental tobacco variety, No.1 Yunshai is light sun-cured tobacco variety, the three varieties were cultivated by Yunnan province Tobacco Academy of Agricultural Sciences Institute, Yunnan Binchuan Burley Corp., Baoshan Oriental Tobacco Corp. and Hongta Group.

Until now, the number of national tobacco varieties increased to 107 (83 in flue-cured tobacco varieties), and the number of varieties cultivated by Yunnan up to 33. Among it, 20 were cultivated by Yunnan itself, and 13 introduced from foreign countries, accounted to 40% of the total number of breeding varieties. Enditem
