<strong>China: Yunnan Sets Taxes and Profits Targets for Tobacco Industry</strong>

Yunnan province leaf tobacco working meeting was held in Kunming on Novermber 28.

Officials in the meeting noted that, in facing of severe drought in the beginning of the year and downward pressure on economic situation, the provincial departments at all levels and tobacco industry grasped the nettle, and purchased 990.8 million kgs, and tobacco farmers income reached 28 billion yuan, an increase of 8.2%.

Deputy-governor Ding Shaoxiang noted that in the meeting, next year tobacco industry will focus on adjusting structure, pushing reform, improving services, to ensure taxes and profits reach 156 billion yuan. He also said that tobacco industry should control production size, and transfer leaf tobacco production development mode, improve tobacco farmers income; improve leaf tobacco quality, and guarantee leaf tobacco productions’ stabilities.
