China: New Training Session on Prevention, Control of Tobacco Aphids Opened

A ceremony was held in Yuxi City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province on October 28 to open a second training session on prevention and control of tobacco aphids with aphidius gifuensis ashmead by China's tobacco industry, after successful holding of a first training session earlier.

The training session was jointly organized by the Department of Science and Technology of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) and China National Leaf Tobacco Corporation.

The opening ceremony was attended by leaders of the Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration and Yuxi City Tobacco Company.

Speaking at the ceremony, a leader of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration introduced to the participants the situation of research and development, promotion and application of the technology for prevention and control of tobacco aphids with aphidius gifuensis ashmead.

It was emphasized at the ceremony that the technology for prevention and control of tobacco aphids with aphidius gifuensis ashmead is meant to use aphidius gifuensis ashmead to control harm caused by tobacco aphids to leaf tobacco. Application of this technology is capable of reducing the use of pesticide in the process of leaf tobacco growing, reducing environmental pollution, increasing safety of leaf tobacco, improving the intrinsic quality of leaf tobacco, providing powerful guarantee for producing high quality leaf tobacco, and providing powerful scientific-technological support for developing an environment-friendly, resource conservation, ecological and harmonious tobacco industry.

The second training session grouped together 63 trainees from 10 provinces (or provincial-level municipalities) including Guizhou, Sichuan, Hunan, Henan and Heilongjiang, who were all from positions in the frontline of leaf tobacco production and technological promotion. Enditem
