Famous Cuban Tobacco Plantation Readies for Campaign Source from: Prensa Latina 10/25/2013 ![]() At the ancient Alejandro Robaina''s tobacco plantation, experienced growers are preparing today the land for tobacco harvest, which will begin next month with the first planting of seedlings. The farm, where the leaf is harvested since mid 19th century, lives again the anxiety of each beginning of campaign, after enlisting the seedlings, Ivan Rodriguez, one of the specialists of the productive area, told Prensa Latina. Referring to the characteristics of the current harvest, Rodriguez said that full-sun and covered up tobacco will be sown, under thin blankets, to ensure the raw material of Vegas Robaina, a brand of five vitolas. Growers continue now preparing soil, essential to achieve optimal and abundant harvests, he said. Located in Cuchillas de Barbacoa, in San Luis municipality, the tobacco plantation receives every day dozens of travelers, attracted by the fame of Alejandro Robaina, a Havana cigar ambassador until his death in 2010.
