<strong>China: Government Delegation Inspects Tobacco Production in Townships</strong>

A delegation from the government of Xuanwei City of Qujing City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, led by Xuanwei City Communist Party Committee Secretary Bao Mingshun, inspected leaf tobacco production in Banqiao, Yangchang and Dongshan Townships in Xuanwei City on July 24.
 
The delegation also included Executive Deputy Mayor Hu Xuankun of Xuanwei City and leaders of the local tobacco monopoly administration authorities.
 
Accompanied by the secretaries of the Communist Party Committees in Banqiao, Yangchang and Dongshan Townships, the delegation went to the three townships to conduct on-site verification of leaf tobacco production in fields.
 
During the inspection, Bao Mingshun fully affirmed the work of leaf tobacco production in the whole of Xuanwei City in the first half of 2013. He emphasized that under concerted efforts by governments and tobacco monopoly administration authorities at all levels, favorable achievements have been made in leaf tobacco production in Xuanwei City in the first half of 2013; that the trend of leaf tobacco growth in fields in the current stage is generally favorable; that the work in terms of acreage assignment, field preparation, soil moisturizing, transplantation management, intertillage management, etc has been promoted to a higher level; and that new breakthrough has been achieved in management.
 
In particular, in the work of resisting the lingering drought and protecting tobacco seedlings in fields, the governments and tobacco monopoly administration authorities at all levels in the city have done a good job of organization, paid great attention to publicity, stepped up efforts for implementation, and made concerted efforts to fight the drought, making remarkable successes, and contributing to promoting development of leaf tobacco production, he said.
 
The tobacco monopoly administration authorities in the city designated all their available human resources to fight the lingering drought by offering technological guidance in a taxonomic way, strengthening field management, and focusing on the work of optimizing the structure of leaf tobacco, contributing to consolidating the basis for leaf tobacco production in the city, according to Bao Mingshun.
 
On the work of leaf tobacco production in a next stage, Bao Mingshun raised the following requirements:
 
Firstly, intertillage management in fields shall be earnestly well done.
 
Secondly, energy shall be focused on doing a good job of contract management, preliminary inspection at the place of production, placement of material supplies for State leaf tobacco purchase in the forthcoming busy harvest season, repair of warehouses and instruments, preparation for State leaf tobacco purchase including professional training, etc.
 
Thirdly, the tobacco monopoly administration authorities in the city shall be required to strengthen process management in State leaf tobacco purchase.
 
And fourthly, the governments at all levels in the city shall earnestly do a good job of control over the order of State leaf tobacco purchase, and actively do a good job of overall coordination. Enditem
