<strong>China: Meeting Held on Development of Ecological Cigarettes</strong>

Guizhou Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration and the technology center of China Tobacco Guizhou Industrial Co., Ltd. in southwest China’s Guizhou Province held on July 15 a symposium on promoting cooperation between the manufacturing and commercial sectors of the provincial tobacco industry in developing ecological cigarette products.

The meeting further specified the targets for research and development of ecological cigarettes by the tobacco industry of Guizhou. It proposed that the next three years or so be spent realizing stable supply of high-quality organic leaf tobacco in Guizhou, with family-run organic farms as the carriers, to establish organic leaf tobacco redrying, fermenting and processing standard systems, to form mature organic cigarette products, and to promote upgrading of the image of brands of leaf tobacco and cigarette products of Guizhou.

The meeting unveiled a project of research and development of ecological leaf tobacco products in Guizhou, which has initially been divided into three parts – the supply of organic leaf tobacco by the agriculture of Guizhou, the research and development of organic tobacco products by the provincial tobacco industry, and the development of the organic tobacco purchase and sales guarantee system.

The meeting proposed that the project be executed under the auspices of chief leaders of the manufacturing and commercial sectors of the provincial tobacco industry, and under the operation model of guidance by experts and advisers, level-by-level management over execution and remarkable integration of duties, rights and interests.
