China: Shizong County Installed 3,500 Thrips Trapping Blue Boards

Shizong County has installed 3,500 thrips trapping blue boards at the tobacco pests comprehensive prevention and control demonstration area in the county so far this year.

Over the past two years, Shizong County has achieved positive results in using yellow sticky boards to trap and kill liriomyza sativae, aphids, etc, which has led to reduced use of pesticides and reduction of costs, and which has contributed to improving the quality and safety of tobacco and other farm produce in the county to higher levels. On the basis of these successes, Shizong County Tobacco Subcompany has purchased the 3,500 thrips trapping blue boards, in efforts to generalize the use of the boards to trap and kill thrips at demonstrative tobacco fields in Yile Village of Caiyun Township.

The blue board pests trapping and killing technology is a physical prevention and control technology for trapping and killing pests with a type of blue boards on which environment-friendly glues including Vaseline and grease are applied. The blue board pests trapping and killing technology is applicable at places of "green" leaf tobacco production, vegetable production, flower growing, fruit tree planting, etc. It is mainly used for luring and killing small pests including bemisia tabaci, thrips and leafhoppers. With the addition of sexual inductive agents, it is capable of trapping and killing the adults of many varieties of pests. This technology is of lower costs, can be independently prepared, is environment-friendly and is easy to apply. Application of this technology throughout the year can obviously reduce the use of pesticides by many times. It is effective to lowering the density of the pest population, without causing pesticide residuals, without environmental pollution, and without causing resistance of pests to pesticides. Enditem
