<strong>China: Ecological Tobacco Development Research Council Leader Inspects Tobacco Varieties Park</strong>

Executive Deputy Director Cheng Yingxuan of Yunnan Green and Ecological Leaf Tobacco Development Research Council went to Yuxi City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province to inspect the World Tobacco Varieties Park there and offer guidance over the development of the park on June 27.

Accompanying Cheng Yingxuan on the inspection was Zhang Xiaoqi, secretary-general of Yunnan Green and Ecological Leaf Tobacco Development Research Council.

During the inspection, Cheng Yingxuan and her entourage visited the exhibition boards, the wild resources zone, the international cooperation in tobacco seedlings development zone, the flue-cured tobacco resources zone and the green tobacco technology demonstration zone, hearing introductions given by leaders of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Agriculture Science Institute on the course of development, development ideas and construction guidelines of the World Tobacco Varieties Park, and on progress in the research of tobacco functional genes, and also hearing introductions given by doctors from abroad on control over the level of nicotine in smoke, inhibition of tobacco auxiliary buds, research of drought resistance by tobacco, the establishment of the TALEN platform, etc.

Visiting the Tissue Culture Laboratory in the park, Cheng Yingxuan and her entourage watched experiments in black shank disease resistance on the part of the Red Big variety, early blossoming of tobacco, etc, systematically asked about innovation and development by Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Agriculture Science Institute, the planned structure of the World Tobacco Varieties Park, the growing of tobacco varieties in the park, tobacco seedlings development with biotechnology, generalization of high and new technology, etc, and conducted exchanges with scientists and technicians on the selection and development of new tobacco varieties, the development of tobacco seedlings with biotechnology, generalization of science and technology in ongoing production of leaf tobacco, etc.

Cheng Yingxuan fully affirmed and highly commented on major achievements made by both Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Agriculture Science Institute and the World Tobacco Varieties Park.

Established in Yuxi City in July 2011, the World Tobacco Varieties Park has in it more than 400 tobacco varieties from around the world. Enditem
