<strong>China: City Government Holds on-the-spot Meeting on Leaf Tobacco Production</strong>

The municipal government of Qujing City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held on June 23 an on-the-spot meeting on optimizing the structure of leaf tobacco products for 2013, to implement the spirits of a recent provincial teleconference on leaf tobacco structure optimization, analyze the current situation of leaf tobacco production, and make arrangements and planning for leaf tobacco structure improvement and the current work of leaf tobacco production in Qujing City.

The meeting emphasized that efforts shall be made to strengthen leadership, highlight priorities, make overall planning and take all factors into consideration, comprehensively do a good job of the current leaf tobacco production in all aspects, resolutely win the hard battle of leaf tobacco structure optimization, and strive to promote the development of a modern tobacco agriculture in Qujing City to a higher level.

Leaders in charge of leaf tobacco work with the municipal government of Qujing City and leaders of Qujing City Tobacco Monopoly Administration, which doubles as Qujing City Tobacco Company, attended the meeting.

The meeting also emphasized that the year 2013 is not only a crucial period of time for converting Qujing City into a powerful leaf tobacco production city from a large leaf tobacco production city, but is also a crucial year for developing outstanding tobacco-producing zones in the city.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the participants visited the sites of treatment of unusable fresh leaf tobacco at Ninggang Village in Maguohe Township, and the sites of tobacco field management, mulching film lifting, ditch raising, earthing up, capping, leaf maintenance and mobile leaf tobacco structure optimization treatment in Tongquan Township, Wang Jiazhuang Township, Maguohe Township and Jiuxian Township in Malong County.
