<strong>China: City Communist Party Official Inspects Leaf Tobacco Production</strong>

Secretary Li Wei of the Politics and Law Committee of Qujing City Committee of the Chinese Communist Party led an exclusive delegation of inspectors to inspect leaf tobacco production in Malong County of Qujing City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province on June 20, hearing reports on ongoing leaf tobacco production and giving instructions on future work operation.

Accompanied by leaders of the Communist Party Committee and government of Malong County and Malong County Tobacco Subcompany, the delegation respectively went deep into tobacco fields in Yangsheng Village in Maguohe Township and Small Houses Village in Jiuxian Township in the county to elaborately learn about launch of the work of generalization of technologies for tobacco seedlings transplantation, mulching film lifting, ditch raising, earthing up, optimization of the structure of leaf tobacco products, etc.

Through on-site verification and after hearing introductions by technicians with the local tobacco monopoly authorities and some local tobacco growers, the delegation fully affirmed the work of leaf tobacco production at Malong County.

During the inspection, Li Wei praised Malong County for overcoming negative impacts of an ongoing lingering drought hitting the local region, exerting great efforts to make planning for field growth of tobacco, fighting the drought to protect tobacco seedlings development, purifying tobacco varieties, organizing timely transplantation of tobacco seedlings despite the drought, and improving management over the work of intertillge with mulching film lifting and earthing up as the principal work. As a result, the scope of tobacco production in Malong County has remained stable and field growth of leaf tobacco has been in a favorable situation.

On the work of leaf tobacco production over a next period of time, Li Wei urged Malong County to continue adhering to the relevant technical standards, make work processes strict, unswervingly do a good job of optimizing the structure of leaf tobacco products, improve the quality of leaf tobacco products, and manage to ensure successful fulfillment of all targets and tasks for leaf tobacco production for 2013.

The leaders accompanying the delegation on the inspection included Malong County Communist Party Committee leaders Li Shiqiao and Yang Jiabao, and Communist Party Committee Secretary and Manager Liu Yinyong of Malong County Tobacco Subcompany, which doubles as Malong County Tobacco Monopoly Administration.
