<strong>China: Xuanwei City Party Chief Inspects Leaf Tobacco Production</strong> Source from: Qujing Tobacco Monopoly Administration 06/24/2013 ![]() Secretary Bao Mingshun of the Chinese Communist Party Committee in Xuanwei City of Qujing City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province traveled to Reshui Township in Xuanwei on June 19 to inspect leaf tobacco production there, hearing reports and giving instructions on production organization. Accompanying the city party committee secretary on the inspection were chief leaders of Xuanwei City Tobacco Subcompany. Meanwhile, leaders of Reshui Township reported the ongoing work of leaf tobacco production in the township to Bao Mingshun. During the inspection, Bao Mingshun respectively went to four villages in the township to inspect agricultural production there, and particularly asked about impacts of a lingering drought on the current production of leaf tobacco. Bao Mingshun first of all affirmed the various work of the local tobacco subcompany, and emphasized that leaf tobacco production plays an important role in the overall economic development in Xuanwei City. Therefore, no errors should be made in leaf tobacco production, the secretary said. In light of the situation of the lingering drought, Bao Mingshun gave the following instructions in response: Firstly, efforts shall be made to make publicity and organize and mobile villagers to actively adopt measures to resist the drought and help themselves. Meanwhile, tobacco technicians shall be guided to do a good job of coordination. Secondly, efforts shall be made to raise funds to buy water-carrying vehicles and water pumps for local farmers and go all out to assist them in fighting the drought and helping themselves. And thirdly, efforts shall be made to guide local farmers to turn ineffective precipitation into effective precipitation mainly by means of breaking mulching film and earthing up. The leaders of the local tobacco subcompany said that in the face of the current lingering drought, the tobacco subcompany will actively cooperate with the local government in launching the work of fighting the drought, to reduce losses sustainable by local farmers, to ensure completion of the construction of "Rainbow Cisterns" for fighting the drought by the end of August, and to guarantee that the "Rainbow Cisterns" can be used for storing water this year. Meanwhile, the leaders of the local tobacco subcompany submitted plans for the construction of "Rainbow Cisterns" for 2014, and pledged to do a good job of relevant planning. In 2014, a pumping irrigation station will be built in coordination with execution of the project of irrigation with water from a small river in the local region known as Xiaoganhe. Enditem |
