<strong>China: City Tobacco Company Makes Progress in Using Aphidius Gifuensis Ashmead</strong>

Kunming City Tobacco Company in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has so far this year made smooth progress in the generalization and application of aphidius gifuensis ashmead to prevent and control tobacco aphids by 100 percent, in full-scale promotion of a "green" and ecological leaf tobacco development strategy.

Recently, all tobacco subcompanies in Kunming City, in accordance with the annual working schemes for using aphidius gifuensis ashmead to prevent and control tobacco aphids, have completed on a full scale the work of inoculation of tobacco aphid larvas with aphidius gifuensis ashmead at the aphidius gifuensis ashmead breeding points for the 638,000 mu (42,533 hectares) of tobacco fields in Kunming City.

So far in 2013, the tobacco-growing zones in Kunming City have managed to generalize a biological prevention and control system, with prevention and control of tobacco aphids by aphidius gifuensis ashmead playing a leading role. By means of giving priority to doing a good job of generalizing and applying the technologies of biological and physical prevention and control with aphidius gifuensis ashmead, sex hormones, biological agents, yellow sticky boards, etc, Kunming City Tobacco Company has succeeded in further enhancing its capacity of scientific-technological support of leaf tobacco production, reducing the use of chemical pesticides and increasing the safety of leaf tobacco products.
