<strong>China: Qujing City Tobacco Company Holds on-the-spot Meeting on Cooperatives</strong>

Qujing City Tobacco Company in southwest China’s tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held on May 21-22 an on-the-spot meeting on the development of specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers in Qujing City in the year 2013, in efforts to practically promote realization of a shift of the mode of leaf tobacco production in the city.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Inspector Mao Jianshu of Qujing City Tobacco Company, which doubles as Qujing City Tobacco Monopoly Administration. Deputy Manager Gao Huafeng of Qujing City Tobacco Company attended the meeting and made specific arrangement and planning for the development of specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers in the city in 2013. Also attending the meeting were deputy managers in charge of production, production section chiefs and business operators of all county-level tobacco subcompanies in Qujing City as well as the chiefs of the executive councils of the specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers in all counties (or urban sub-districts) in the city.

The meeting stated that along with development of the national economy, social progress and acceleration of the process of urbanization in China, the trend of construction and development of specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers in the country has appeared to be irreversible. It required all competent local authorities at all levels concerned to strengthen guidance and support, and to play increasing roles in stabilizing the development of the local tobacco industry and in promoting leaf tobacco production in the local region to higher levels.

At the meeting, the chiefs of the executive councils of Caiyun Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Shizong County, Double Happiness Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Luoping County and Xiangyi Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Luoping County respectively delivered speeches to exchange views on the development and operation of specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers in the local region.

The participants in the meeting, meanwhile, observed the development and operation of Caiyun Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Shizong County, Double Happiness Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Luoping County and Xiangyi Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Luoping County.
