<strong>China: County Tobacco Subcompany Actively Makes Preparation for Disaster Prevention</strong> Source from: Qujing Tobacco Monopoly Administration 05/30/2013 ![]() Zhanyi County Tobacco Subcompany in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province attaches great importance to the work of preventing and reducing natural disasters and actively makes preparation for disaster prevention and reduction in organizing leaf tobacco production in the local region. The tobacco subcompany, in light of the realities of the work of leaf tobacco production and the situation of occurrence of natural disasters in the local region, has vigorously focused its energy on screening against hidden dangers of natural disasters and implantation of the relevant working measures, and has actively done a good job of fighting the ongoing lingering drought hitting southwest China, protecting tobacco seedlings, preventing hailstorms, preventing plant diseases and pests, etc, to maintain the interests of the local tobacco growers. Firstly, the county tobacco subcompany has particularly established a leadership group to oversee the work of disaster prevention and reduction, has managed to improve its planning for disaster prevention and reduction, and has distributed assignments level by level to the relevant departments for execution. Secondly, the county tobacco subcompany has swiftly launched screening against hidden dangers of natural disasters. In particular, it has strengthened screening and examination at locations vulnerable to such natural disasters as floods, hailstorms and drought. Fourthly, the county tobacco subcompany has offered training on operations in preventing risks from natural disasters in the period of leaf tobacco growth, has managed to well regulate the operation rules for insurance against hailstorms, wind disasters, floods (including mud slides) and plant diseases and pests, and has publicized insurance policies and disaster prevention knowledge to local tobacco growers.
