<strong>China: City Communist Party Chief Inspects Leaf Tobacco Production</strong>

Secretary Bao Mingshun of the Chinese Communist Party Committee in Xuanwei City of Qujing City in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province went to Wude Township in the city to inspect leaf tobacco production there on April 27, hearing reports and giving instructions on the ongoing fight against a lingering drought and transplantation of tobacco seedlings onto fields in the current busy spring plowing season.

Accompaning Bao Mingshun on the inspection were Lu Zhengguo, member of the Standing Committee and director of the General Office of the Xuanwei City Chinese Communist Party Committee, Li Qixin, deputy chairman of the Xuanwei City Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Qin Qingkui, manager of Xuanwei City Tobacco Subcompany.

During the inspection, Bao Mingshun went deep into fields and specifically asked about the work of fighting the lingering drought hitting southwest China over the past four years, protection of tobacco seedlings, implementation of the policy of growing tobacco of a new variety known as Big Red, the construction of water source facilities, etc. In Xiaojie and Hongai Villages, Bao Mingshun conducted on-site verification of the growing of tobacco seedlings under mulching film, and heard reports on the ongoing work of leaf tobacco production in Wude Township.

During the inspection, Bao Mingshun fully affirmed the work achieved by Wude Township in leaf tobacco production. He pointed out that the work of leaf tobacco production in Xuanwei City has been practical and efficient so far this year, with the achievement of certain successes, which has proven to be a result of concerted efforts by the local tobacco monopoly administration and governments at all levels.

Bao Mingshun expressed the hope that everyone will make persistent efforts on the basis of successes already achieved, and practically promote all aspects of work, in order to lay a solid foundation for promoting leaf tobacco production in Xuanwei City to a higher level. Enditem
