<strong>China: Sections of Large-scale Irrigation Project for Tobacco Production Linked up</strong> Source from: Qujing Tobacco Monopoly Administration 05/03/2013 ![]() Sections Four and Five of a large-scale project of irrigation for tobacco production in Xuanwei City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, known as Project Jirong, were both linked up to the whole project on April 10 upon completion of construction, paving the way for fulfillment of the construction of the project. The 1,850-meter-long Section Five of Project Jirong runs from the Western Village in Banqiao Township of Xuanwei City to Barley Hub at the Triple-Path Village in Waterfall Township of the city. After painstaking efforts, Section Four and Section Five of Project Jirong were successfully linked up to the whole project. Presently, efforts are underway to remove debris, check and repair machinery, consolidate the tunnels for safety control, etc. Meanwhile, relevant work of preparation is being made for concrete pouring for building tunnels in the sections. According to reports from the project construction direction department, up to now, 23,005 sets-times of machinery have been applied in the construction of Project Jirong; 97,761 persons-times have been stationed in the construction site; the construction of 3,540 meters of canales has been completed; the construction of 1,084.56 meters of tunnel branches has been completed; and digging for building the main tunnel has been extended to 4,857.6 meters, signifying fulfillment of 66.05 percent of the construction work of Project Jirong.
