Zimbabwe: Insurance Firm Under Fire

Tobacco growers have accused Regal Insurance of effecting stop-order deductions from their sales accounts when they did not sign any insurance contracts with the company. The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board has since written to Regal Insurance to stop the unilateral deductions after receiving numerous complaints from farmers.

TIMB chief executive Dr Andrew Matibiri said they once had the same problem with the company in 2009 when it would effect an automatic renewal of contracts.

He said they would continue to pursue the matter with Regal Insurance.

The Herald has since established that some of the farmers did not have any contracts with Regal Insurance, while others signed contracts without understanding the provisions. Enditem
