<strong>China: Provincial Government Delegation Inspects Fight against Drought in Tobacco Production</strong> Source from: Qujing Tobacco Monopoly Administration 04/28/2013 ![]() A delegation from the government of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, led by Deputy Governor Ding Shaoxiang of Yunnan Province, conducted inspection at the sites of the fight against the ongoing lingering drought in Zhanyi County and Luliang County in Qujing City of the province on April 17, hearing reports on the fight against the drought and giving instructions on future work. The delegation also grouped Yu Yundong, director and general manager of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration; Li Shisong, secretary general of the provincial government of Yunnan; and Shao Yan, deputy general manager of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration, which doubles as Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Corporation. Accompanying the delegation on the inspection were Gao Jingsong, secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Qujing City Committee; Zhu Deguang, secretary general of Chinese Communist Party Qujing City Committee; Zhu Xingyou, deputy mayor of Qujing City; and Wu Lizhu, Qujing City Tobacco Monopoly Administration. During the inspection, the delegation went deep into Shiyang Village in Xiping Township in Zhanyi Couty and Stone Wall Temple Reservoir in Banqiaozhen and Guohe Village in Zhaokua Township of Luliang County to conduct on-site inspection of the work of water storage for fighting the drought at local tobacco-growing areas, the fight against the drought in tobacco seedlings transplantation onto fields during the current busy spring plowing season, the transplantation of tobacco seedlings onto fields under mulching film, joining farmers in field operation, hearing opinions and suggestions raised by both grassroots-level officials and tobacco growers on fighting the drought and protecting crops, and holding talks with officials with the Chinese Communist Party Qujing City Committee and Qujing City government. Speaking during the inspection, Ding Shaoxiang said that as a result of early planning for the work of fighting the drought in leaf tobacco production, rapid response and practical work, initial success has been achieved in the work of fighting the drought in leaf tobacco production, and that continued efforts are needed for ensuring a bumper harvest in leaf tobacco production and realize growth in output in the current year despite the lingering severe drought. Speaking on the same occasion, Yu Yundong emphasized that the current work should be based on well managing the fight against the drought in leaf tobacco production, and make long-term planning for enabling the tobacco industry of Qujing City to make outstanding achievements and to make itself stronger.
