<strong>China: City Tobacco Company Holds on-the-spot Meeting on Ttransplantation</strong>

Qujing City Tobacco Company in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held on April 8 an on-the-spot meeting on the transplantation of tobacco seedlings onto fields during the current spring plowing season, with the focus on overall planning for tobacco seedlings transplantation and strengthening the management of transplantation.

The meeting pointed out that top priority should be given to exerting all efforts to well manage the work of transplantation of tobacco seedlings onto fields, to ensure that the entire work of transplantation will be completed by the end of April.

The meeting fully affirmed the achievements made by the tobacco industry of Qujing over recent years, and required the various departments of the local tobacco monopoly administrative authorities at all levels to adhere to the policy of taking improvement of the quality and efficiency of the tobacco industry as a central task, and strive to strengthen management, do basic work, promote the application of advanced technology, conduct structural reform, innovate systems, keep promoting the development of the tobacco industry to higher levels and promote a transition of the tobacco industry of Qujing from largeness onto powerfulness.

The meeting made overall planning and arrangement for the work of transplantation of tobacco seedlings onto fields during the current spring plowing season, and pointed out that energy should be focused on well doing the work of transplantation in the following respects in keeping with the central task of resisting a lingering drought in transplantation:

Firstly, steps should be taken to practically well manage the work of controlling the total quantity and stabilizing the scope of production, in order to realize sound control and stability.

Secondly, efforts should be made to accelerate the process of transplantation, to ensure completion of the task of transplantation at the best time of the spring plowing season.

Thirdly, efforts should be made to well manage the work of transplantation of seedlings under the mulching film, to ensure that the acreage of transplantation of seedlings under the mulching film will account for over 50 percent of the total.

Fourthly, efforts should be made to purify the tobacco varieties in growing, to ensure that the varieties of tobacco crops in growing will be fine ones by 100 percent.

Fifthly, efforts should be made to strengthen the generalization of application farm machinery in transplantation, to lower the cost of tobacco growing and increase the income of tobacco growers.
