Malawi: Tobacco Volume May Double in 2013

Tobacco volume this year is expected to reach 156 million kilogrammes, almost double last year's crop of 79 million kg, according to remarks by President Joyce Banda opening the 2013 marketing season reported by the Nyasa Times.
 
Earnings from a crop Banda described as of good quality should rise to at least USD 300 million (EUR 231 million) from USD 177 million in 2012, according to the online news site. Banda said she was concerned that production of flue-cured tobacco continues to decline in primarily burley-producing Malawi, the Nyasa Times reported. Enditem
