<strong>China: Provincial Corporation Succeeds in Further Improving Structure of Characteristic Varieties</strong>

China Tobacco Guizhou Industrial Co., Ltd. in southwest China's Guizhou Province has succeeded in further improving the structure of characteristic varieties of tobacco grown in units of exclusive high-quality leaf tobacco production and supply bases for its Guiyan (Guizhou Tobacco) cigarette brand family.

Latest official statistics released by the provincial corporation indicate that the corporation has achieved the success mainly by means of the adopting the following approaches so far in 2013:

Firstly, the manufacturing sector of the tobacco industry of Guizhou has actively played a leading role. In this respect, the raw materials supply department and the technology center, in accordance with the regional characteristics of all units of exclusive bases and the designing of the blending formula of Guiyan, have conveyed the requirements for growing of the designated tobacco varieties for 2013, has fed back in a timely manner the results of appraisal of quality of leaf tobacco grown in the units in 2012, and has analyzed impacts of tobacco varieties on product quality.

And secondly, all tobacco-producing areas have attached great importance to the significance of developing characteristic varieties to manifesting the regional characteristics of leaf tobacco. For example, the units in Chuxiong Prefecture in neighboring Yunnan Province and Liangshan Prefecture in neighboring Sichuan Province have additionally grown the Red Flower Gold Coin variety; the units in southeast China's Fujian Province have additionally grown the Cuibi No. 1 variety; the units in Weining County in Guizhou have sharply increased the growing of the Yunyan 97 variety; and the units in Qiannan Prefecture and Zunyi City in Guizhou have further increased the growing of the K326 variety. Meanwhile, the acreage of some local varieties has been brought under effective control.

Through the construction of units of exclusive high-quality leaf tobacco production and supply bases, China Tobacco Guizhou Industrial Co., Ltd. has succeeded in enhancing the capacity of leading the production and supply of raw materials for its Guiyan cigarette brand family, specifying the orientation of leaf tobacco production at the tobacco-producing areas, and continuing to strengthen the research and guarantee of raw materials production and supply.
