<strong>China: Provincial Corporation Delegation Inspects Leaf Tobacco Production in Qujing</strong>

A delegation from Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Corporation in southwest Chinas' tobacco-producing Yunnan Province travelled on February 9 to Luliang and Zhizong Counties in Qujing City of the province to inspect leaf tobacco production in the two counties.

The delegation was led by Deputy General Manager Shao Yan of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Corporation, and included Leaf Tobacco Management Division Chief Du Shaoming of the corporation.

During the inspection, the delegation respectively went deep into the Damogumashesuo tobacco seedlings development point, Taipingshao tobacco seedlings development greenhouses, Banqiao Township Stone Wall Temple Reservoir and Fanghua Township Xiaoyubo Reservoir in Luliang County, and tobacco seedlings development sites in Fuxing Village in Danfeng Township and Xiaoyize in Caiyun Township, to conduct on-site inspection over the construction of tobacco seedlings development greenhouses and support facilities, the process of mechanized development of tobacco seedlings, management of commercial development of tobacco seedlings in flotation, storage of water in reservoirs, etc, and specifically ask about mechanisms for the management and operation of commercial development of tobacco seedlings in flotation, and the work of improving the structure of leaf tobacco of all grades, use of water for tobacco production, the construction of leaf tobacco curing barns, etc.

After conducting on-site inspection and hearing reports on work, the delegation expressed full affirmation of all aspects of the work of leaf tobacco production in Qujing City.

On the work of leaf tobacco production over a next period of time, the delegation emphasized that efforts shall be focused on well doing the following aspects of work:

Firstly, the total quantity shall be brought under control, and the scale of production shall be practically stabilized.

Secondly, steps shall be taken to improve quality. Quality improvement technical measures shall be implemented to tobacco growers, to improve quality and practically increase the income of tobacco growers from unit growing of leaf tobacco. In accordance with efforts to build outstanding tobacco-producing zones, steps shall be taken to promote quality improvement and efficiency increase from tobacco production, and to promote the general level of leaf tobacco production.

And thirdly, there shall be a shift of the mode of development. Through acceleration of a shift of the mode of development, the path of "ecological, safe, high-quality and characteristic" leaf tobacco development shall be taken, to realize a shift of leaf tobacco production onto the intensive type, quality-orientation type, efficiency-orientation type and ecological type.
