China: Malong County Holds Meeting on Land Consolidation for Tobacco Growing

Malong County in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held a meeting at the government building of Yuewang Township in the county on January 28 a meeting on mobilization of efforts for consolidating farmland for tobacco growing in 2013, in paving the way for fulfilling the annual leaf tobacco production quotas issued to the county by the tobacco monopoly administrative authorities.

Presided over by executive deputy chief Li Shiqiao of Malong County, the meeting was also attended by Wu Hui, director of the Capital Construction Office of Qujing City Tobacco Company, Gao Shi'an, director of Malong County Discipline Inspection and Supervision Bureau, and Zhu Shuliang, manager of Malong County Tobacco Subcompany.

In an address delivered at the meeting, Zhu Shuliang made arrangements and planning for the construction of projects in the county, requiring all construction companies to earnestly fulfill the contracts signed, carry out the work of construction strictly in accordance with the requirement of designing, manage to assure the quality of construction, and complete the work of construction on time.

Meanwhile, Zhu required supervisory institutions and project management personnel to earnestly fulfill their official duties, designate exclusive human resources, well make organization, do a good job of supervision and inspection of the quality of project construction, supervise and well control progress in the construction of projects, complete determination of the work of construction on time, and ensure completion of the work of construction of projects on time and in accordance with the quality control requirement.

Also speaking at the meeting, representatives of the construction companies made statements on their companies' readiness to complete the work of construction on time and in accordance with the quality control requirement. At the same time, representatives of the supervisory institutions made statements on their institutions' readiness to do a good job of controlling both the quality and progress of the construction work.

So far in 2013, the government of Malong County has approved a package of projects of farmland consolidation, construction of irrigation facilities for tobacco production and tractor paths in tobacco fields in two project areas, with the allocation of funds to the tune of 74.1253 million yuan (11.77 million U.S. dollars). When their construction is completed, the projects will benefit 10,000 local residents in 20 villagers' groups in five villages, and farmland totaling 26,472 mu (1,764.8 hectares). In order that the work of construction will be started as early as possible, Malong County Tobacco Subcompany is actively making preparation for starting the work of construction of the projects.
