China: Qilin District Holds Leaf Tobacco Work Conference for 2013

Qilin District in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held its leaf tobacco work conference for the year 2013 on January 7, summing up the work of leaf tobacco production in Qilin District in 2012, and mapping out the general guidelines for the work of leaf tobacco production in the district in 2013.

The dignitaries attending the meeting included Dang Kairong, chief of the People's Government of Qilin District, Zhao Xuejun, vice-chairman of Qilin District Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Wang Shihai, a leader of Qilin District People's Congress with the rank of deputy county chief, and Gui Jingcheng, director of the administrative office of Qilin District People's Government.

The meeting was presided over by Zhou Guangfen, deputy chief of Qilin District Peoples' Government.

At the meeting, Manager Zhong Rui of Qilin District Tobacco Subcompany summed up on a full scale the work of leaf tobacco production in Qilin District in 2012, and unveiled arrangements for leaf tobacco production in the district in 2013.

According to the meeting, the general guidelines for the work of leaf tobacco production in the Qilin District in 2013 are to focus energy on developing outstanding leaf tobacco-producing zones, adhere to the new notion of developing a green, ecological and healthy tobacco industry and the new idea of developing green, ecological, characteristic, safe and high-quality leaf tobacco products; to strive to shift ways of leaf tobacco production, with the development of a modern tobacco agriculture as the lead, and with protection of interests of tobacco growers as a start point; to adhere to "stabilizing the scale of leaf tobacco production"; to realize improvement of the quality of leaf tobacco production and increase of the unit output of leaf tobacco and the average proceeds from leaf tobacco production per mu (per 0.067 hectare); and to promote the general level of leaf tobacco production in Qilin District on a full scale.
