China: Qilin District Promotes Preparation for Establishing Cooperative of Tobacco Growers Source from: Qujing Tobacco Monopoly Administration 01/17/2013 ![]() Qilin District in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province is in smooth promotion of preparation for establishing the Xinglong Comprehensive Service-Oriented Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Sanbao Township of the district, to facilitate tobacco production and trading in Qilin. In accordance with the Guiding Opinions of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration on Promoting the Development of Comprehensive Service-Oriented Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers, and the spirit of a national symposium on the development of specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers, the establishment of the Xinglong Comprehensive Service-Oriented Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers in Sanbao Township of Qilin District has been designated as a pilot project of demonstration of establishment of specialized cooperatives of tobacco growers in Yunnan Province in 2013. In efforts to complete the establishment of the Xinglong Comprehensive Service-Oriented Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers with high standards and high requirements and in a timely manner, and to put it into operation at an early date, Qilin District has attached great importance to the establishment of the cooperative. So far, the district has pooled together various available resources to promote preparation for the establishment of the cooperative on a full scale, and the work of preparation in all aspects has been smoothly carried out. After completion of the establishment of the Xinglong Comprehensive Service-Oriented Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers, Qilin District will have formed a comprehensive service structure of the local tobacco industry with provision of specialized service for tobacco production and trading as the principal business, and also with promotion of business diversity. The Xinglong Comprehensive Service-Oriented Specialized Cooperative of Tobacco Growers will cover 220 tobacco-growing farm households and 2,000 mu (133 hectares) of tobacco fields. It will realize the provision of specialized service for tobacco seedlings development, farm machinery application, plant protection, transportation, curing and leaf tobacco grading, attain the target of controlling the use of manpower for tobacco production to an average of 15 per mu (per 0.067 hectare), to free local tobacco growers from processes of tobacco production that require high intensity of labor and that have high requirements for technology, and to promote sustainable development of leaf tobacco production in Qilin District.
