Meeting Held on Appraising Monomer Tobacco under Contrast Test of Introduced Varieties

The tobacco industry of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province held in Yuxi City of Yunnan on October 25-26 a meeting on the appraisal and test-smoking of monomer tobacco under the project of national contrast test of introduced tobacco varieties, which was presided over by Deputy Director Liu Bing of Yunnan Provincial Leaf Tobacco Quality Supervision and Monitoring Station.

 

At the meeting, 21 appraisal and test-smoking experts from Hongta Group, HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group. Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Agriculture Science Research Institute and Yunnan Provincial Leaf Tobacco Quality Supervision and Monitoring Station appraised the sensory quality of monomer tobacco of 104 samples of nine tobacco varieties introduced from foreign countries.

The meeting was strictly in accordance with the YC/T 138-1998 standards of the tobacco industry. At the meeting, the experts appraised the sensory quality of monomer tobacco of 104 samples of nine introduced tobacco varieties, with the contrast varieties being the MSK326 from the tobacco-growing zones in south China and the NC89 from tobacco-growing zones in north China.

Through the appraisal, test-smoking and discussion, the experts agreed that the various indexes of the varieties including NC71, RGH04 and PVH1452 were balanced and coordinated, with a relatively high quality, with remarkable characteristics and relatively high value for industrial use.

The project of national contrast test of introduced tobacco varieties is a technological transformation project assigned by China National Leaf Tobacco Corporation to Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Agriculture Science Research Institute (South China Center of China Tobacco Seedlings Research Institute, Yuxi China Tobacco Seeds Co., Ltd. and Yunnan Provincial Leaf Tobacco Quality Supervision and Monitoring Station for joint execution.

The taskforce for the execution of the project has introduced 14 tobacco varieties from the United States and Brazil. Since 2009, it has conducted two rounds of contrast test in nine representative experimental areas, screening out fine tobacco varieties including NC71, PVH1452, RGH04 and NC196 on the basis of appraisal.
