Lebanon: Tobacco Board to Start Collecting Year''s Harvest

Lebanon's Tobacco Board will start collecting the harvest from farmers Thursday, the head of the tobacco farmers association said in a news conference.

"The [board] will receive tobacco produce in 14 centers in north and south Lebanon," Hussein Fakih said, adding that Bekaa Valley produce would be bought by the end of 2012. According to Fakih, prices will range from LL17,700 per kilogram for premium produce to LL16,600 for medium-quality and LL4,850 for low-quality produce.

Lebanon's tobacco sector revenues are expected to increase by up to $145 million in 2012, the state-owned tobacco monopoly said last week, adding that significant investments in cigarette manufacturing will take place. Enditem
