China: Organic Tobacco Project Gets Certificate of Conversion Authentication

An organic leaf tobacco production project established in Shunshan Village in Sujiayuan Township of Zhaotong County in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has got a certificate of conversion authentication, after a panel of experts from Nanjing Environmental Research Institute of the Ministry of Environmental Protection conducted on-site verification for conversion authentication at the village on August 8-10.

In accordance with the planning and arrangement of Hongta Group for organic leaf tobacco production, the organic tobacco production base in Shunshan Village has grown 200 mu (13.3 hectares) of organic tobacco in 2012. In July 2011, the operator of the organic leaf tobacco production project at Shunshan Village filed an application for conversion authentication of organic leaf tobacco production. In July 2012, it met all the requirements for conversion authentication. After arrival at the organic tobacco production base, the panel of experts examined facilities for physical prevention and control of pests and plant diseases in organic tobacco production, verified the organic manure and biological pesticides in use, checked relevant data and records on leaf tobacco production there, and took samples for testing. Presently, the leaf tobacco crops at the base are growing well, and lower leaves have entered the stage of curing. Enditem
