China: County Communist Party Chief Inspects Work of Leaf Tobacco Purchase Source from: Qujing Tobacco Monopoly Administration 08/17/2012 Secretary Han Kaizhu of the Chinese Communist Party Luoping County Committee in Qujing City of southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province personally traveled to Majie Neighborhood and Agang Township in the county to inspect the work of State leaf tobacco purchase there on August 6, giving instruments on doing a good job of organizing State leaf tobacco purchase in the county in the current harvest season.
Accompanied by leaders of Luoping County Tobacco Subcompany, Han Kaizhu led a delegation to Majie Neighborhood and Songmao and Chetu Villages to conduct on-site inspection of the management of tobacco crops in fields in the middle and late periods of growing. The secretary said that efforts should be made to practically strengthen management of tobacco crops in fields in the middle and late periods of growing, with equal importance attached to harvesting and management, and with attention paid to improving the quality of leaf tobacco.
Han Kaizhu said that efforts should be made to guide tobacco growers to harvest leaf tobacco at times of maturity and cure leaf tobacco in a scientific way, in order that lower leaves will be picked at appropriate times, middle leaves will be picked at times of maturity and that upper leaves will be picked at times of sufficient maturity. He said that in accordance with the trend of growth of leaf tobacco, the level of production and soil fertility of tobacco fields, enough leaves should be left in order to raise the output of leaf tobacco; that while staying firmly rooted in the present, importance should also be attached to future development; and that while doing a good job of organizing leaf tobacco purchase in the current harvest season, good planning should be made for work in the next year.
Han Kaizhu demanded that the work of preliminary inspection, re-inspection and grading of leaf tobacco should be well done, that the system of grading in leaf tobacco purchase should be strictly implemented, and that standards for leaf tobacco purchase should be strictly followed, in order to always keep stable purchase, practically do a good job of leaf tobacco purchase, prevent sharp fluctuations in leaf tobacco purchase, and well maintain the interests of tobacco growers.
He also said that efforts should be strengthened for tobacco monopoly, harshly crack down on unlawful trading in leaf tobacco, prevent leaf tobacco from getting out of the control of State monopoly, and create a favorable environment for the work of leaf tobacco purchase. Enditem
