China: County Tobacco Subcompany Innovates, Promotes Different Ways of Leaf Tobacco Filling Source from: Qujing Tobacco Company 08/07/2012 Luoping County Tobacco Subcompany in Qujing City of southwest China’s tobacco-producing Yunnan Province, in accordance with the requirement of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA), has established a taskforce for executing model projects of testing different ways of filling leaf tobacco into curing barns for curing, in cooperation with Henan Agriculture University and Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Science Research Institute.
On the basis of careful organization, the taskforce has managed to earnestly launch experimental demonstrations of different ways of leaf tobacco filling for curing.
Firstly, the taskforce has done a good job of technical transformation of curing barns. In efforts to make data of its experimental demonstrations comparative and applicable, the taskforce, in light of the local realities, has made careful comparisons and earnest selections, and has eventually designated 810 curing barns to conduct experimental demonstrations, and made technical transformation of the structure of the curing barns. Of the 810 curing barns, 479 have been designated to conduct experimental demonstrations of the way of leaf tobacco filling through folders, 322 to conduct experimental demonstrations of the way of untied leaf tobacco filling on brackets, and 9 to conduct experimental demonstrations of the way of box-type leaf tobacco filling.
Secondly, the taskforce has well made preparations of leaf tobacco for experiments in curing. In efforts to make the data of curing accurate and reliable, it has chosen five plots with consistently growing tobacco crops, with moderate application of fertilizer and with a relatively favorable maturity of leaf tobacco as experimental plots for demonstration, to strengthen guidance and urge farmers to pick leaf tobacco for curing at the time of maturity.
Thirdly, the taskforce has done of good job of technical training. On July 24, it offered training on different ways of leaf tobacco filling for curing to curing operators, specialized tobacco growers and tobacco technicians from all parts of the county, to ensure their operation in accordance with the relevant rules, and to ensure application of the relevant technologies.
And fourthly, the taskforce has meticulously organized execution. Specifically, it has formed three working groups to conduct technical guidance and make follow-up records of the adoption of different ways of leaf tobacco filling, to ensure truthfulness and validity of the data. Enditem
