China: Chuxiong Cigarette Factory Expected to Enjoy Bumper Harvest of Leaf Tobacco

Chuxiong Cigarette Factory of Hongta Group in southwest China’s tobacco-producing Yunnan Province is expected to enjoy a bumper harvest of leaf tobacco grown at its units of a high-quality leaf tobacco production base in Chuxiong Prefecture in the province in the forthcoming harvest season, as a result of a recent favorable weather. The recent favorable weather over Chuxiong Prefecture came after a lingering drought hitting southwest China over the past three years. In fighting the lingering drought, the entire workforce of the local tobacco industry from the top to the bottom levels made concerted efforts to overcome various difficulties, successfully eliminating negative impacts of the lingering drought. In the middle and late periods of tobacco growing, there was plentiful rainfall covering large areas in Chuxiong, which contributed to significantly easing the lingering drought, and the tobacco in all units of the tobacco production base was growing well, in anticipation of a bumper harvest of leaf tobacco in the forthcoming harvest season there. Presently, tobacco crops in southwest China are in a crucial period of capping, branch removal and early picking for curing. The technicians of Chuxiong Cigarette Factory responsible for operating the units of the tobacco production base have all gone to tobacco fields to earnestly do a good job of estimating the leaf tobacco output, guiding tobacco growers to prevent and control the spread of pests and plant diseases, capping, removing branches and scientific picking tobacco leaves for curing, etc. Tobacco leaves picked in the early stage have been sent into curing barns, and all units of the tobacco production base are busy operating programs of training on curing technologies in standardized production.
