Zimbabwe: More Than 130 Million kgs of Tobacco Sold

Sales of 131 million kilograms of flue-cured tobacco through the 97th day of the market season brought an average price of USD 3.70 (EUR 3) per kg, the business journal intoZimbabwe reported. At least 133 million kg will be sold during this year’s season, according to an estimate cited by intoZimbabwe. Although gross revenue at USD 486 million is 44 per cent above the comparable period last year, intoZimbabwe said an update to the government’s Medium-Term Plan for the year revised the expected total down by 50 million kg to 130 million kg. According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, 1.6 million bales have been sold so far this year compared with 1.5 million bales during the same period last year, intoZimbabwe said.
