Pakistan: PTB Revises Tobacco Crop Price at Rs 121 Per kg Source from: Business Recorder 07/09/2012 Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB) revised the minimum price for tobacco crop of 2012 and announced a rate of Rs 121 per kg against the earlier fixed price of Rs 117 per kg at the request of tobacco growers, said a notification of the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday.
The Pakistan Tobacco Board (PTB) has revised not only the prices of tobacco but also the grade as well, said the notification. The Ministry of Commerce, in a meeting chaired by Minister of State Abbas Khan Afridi last week, directed the PTB to revise tobacco price as tobacco producers in Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had threatened dire consequences if their demands were not met.
The PTB had a meeting with two leading cigarette manufacturers and other stakeholders including Tobacco Dealers Association and all the members of the Board, including the tobacco growers. "Farmers should shun the protest being held in the pretext of tobacco price as some of the forces are using the innocent farmers for their vested interests, a farmer said when asked his opinion on the matter.
