China: New Tobacco Type Approved by National Tobacco Evaluation Committee

The tobacco type evaluation meeting was held in Taining county, Sanming City, Fujian Province by National Tobacco Evaluation Committee on June 19. New Virginia tobacco type "K-2"cultivated by Sanming Tobacco Monopoly Administraion. During the evaluation period, experts group inspected this type tobacco leaf in tobacco field and heard related reports from the cultivated unit. During the meeting, members of committee agreed that "K-2"is a good tobacco type, with good flavor character, and is suited to plant in tobacco area of Fujian. Experts also provided suggestions to furtherly improve cultivated technology of "K-2". "K-2"was trial planted in Fujian Virginia tobacco-growing area in 2006 and 2007. It attended Virginia tobacco production test in Fujian province during 2008 and 2009. "K-2" attended Virginia tobacco production test in southeast tobacco-growing area of China during 2010 and 2011.
