China: STMA Invested 1.6 Billion Yuan to Improve Farmers' Living Condition Source from: TobaccoChina Online 06/15/2012 State Tobacco Monopoly Administration will invest 1.6 billion yuan to improve tobacco farmers' living condition in Chongqing city under the programme of " Chongqing Tobacco Benefits the mass" in 2012. This is the biggest from STMA in Chongqing's history, Chongqing Tobacco Monopoly Administration said on June 12.
Tobacco growing areas in Chongqing mainly located in southeast area of Chongqing and three gorges reservoir area. In these areas, the condition of tobacco farmers' producing and life is poor, Infrastructure condition is bad.
The 1.6 billion yuan investment will be used to build roads, barns, water resources programme, land arrangement and farm machinery, etc.. The programme of water resources will locate in Wulong county and Fengdu County. In 2012, Chengdu plans to arrange about 40000 mu (2666.66 ha) for land arrangement. In 2012, Chongqing plans to build 2000 kilometers road in tobacco areas, and to build 250 kilometers road in tobacco fields.
